Toowoomba-based Tegan DeClark has many friends in high places. Think Julia Gillard, Geoffrey Rush and Richard Branson.
We believe it’s all the height-defying adventures she’s into – leaping off 800-ft buildings, abseiling skyscrapers and the like, you know, every day stuff you and I do when we we’re bored.
As you would expect, she’s on top of it all in the Darling Downs in Queensland, sharing amazing stories of women making waves – one of them is the young Alyssa Azar who is set to conquer Mt Everest this year.
There’s a common theme here.
I found Woman.com.au to be an excellent resource for women in business and in life. I became involved after noticing a the need to bring the inspirational women of the Darling Downs to the rest of Australia and the world. There is a huge amount of talent and success here and their stories need to be told. I love events, networking and writing, so I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to the blend of inspirational women, events relevant to women and a place online women can call home.
My journey so far has been so full of life. I feel blessed to have had such an interesting life full of travel, amazing experiences and lots joy.
In year 11, I was awarded along with two of my classmates an opportunity to go to the Global Young Leaders Conference GYLC in New York and Washington DC. We had to fund the trip ourselves, so we brainstormed and fundraised. That’s when I discovered what was really possible when I put my mind to it. I also learnt that the networks you create are imperative to what you want to achieve.
At 18 I wanted to see the world and I backpacked solo through North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. I settled in the United States in South West Florida where I began a career in real estate.
I have a love for adventure and have lept off an 800-ft building in Las Vegas, abseiled down 36 floors of a building in Brisbane for charity, climbed a mountain in South Africa, skydived in Florida, went canyoning in Switzerland and rode and did aerobatics in a Warbird in Toowoomba.
I have met with some amazing people like Richard Branson, former PM Julia Gillard, Ray Martin and Geoffrey Rush.
Today, I live in Toowoomba with my daughter where I continue my passion for real estate.
I got to where I am today by being able to spot an opportunity and not leave things to chance. I believe in designing your own life by the choices you make. Where others just wait, I would rather take a leap of faith into the unknown and see what happens.
Attitude is everything. Two attitudes I live by are, boldness and kindness. Boldness is rewarded in life. I attribute most of my highlights to taking a bold approach. But equally important, being kind is an essential way of life for me and to a fault, I’ll jump at opportunities to give and help out.
I have a passion for aviation and plan on getting my pilots license and learn to fly aerobatics.
A passion for life and the amazing chance that every day presents a new potential experience or challenge.

I find twitter to be an excellent resource for information and inspiration in real time. Anything you need to know, there is a relevant hashtag. Great for events, networking and sharing with the world.
International Woman’s Day was an event I covered locally it was put on by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and the combined stories, skills and passion for the path of local successful women was incredible. I took a lot away from that event and can’t wait for next years!
Talk to just a few people and learn about them. Ask questions and be interested. You can learn a lot from the experiences and attitudes of others. Enter with an open mind and don’t judge.
Women of position in Business, CEO’s, entrepreneurs and agents of change.
It’s an interesting question and I don’t think in this day and age that there is much of an issue. If women have a goal for top jobs and the determination to do it, there is no reason it can’t be done. I don’t think ‘being a woman’ is any sort of excuse not to aim high and achieve it. If you can’t get the top job in a company because you’re a woman, then you’re probably not in the right company anyway.
By enjoying my career and enjoying my time off. If you don’t like what you do, it’s a long painful path to retirement. I immerse myself in every day and live my life!
